The symbol of The City of Smederevo is a fortress that was built in the fifteenth century. Throughout history, the fate of the city was repeatedly tied to the fortress, which was created with desire to preserve the boundaries of medieval Serbia. The story of its builder Despot Đurađ Branković and his wife Jerina "The Cursed" and painful fortress development through traditional tales took dimensions of a myth. This play attempts to separate myth from facts and examine one segment of Serbian history through a different approach from the traditional.
The play is performed annually as part of the most important event of the city – Smederevo Autumn Festival. The play is performed in a fortress, which contributes to the authentic atmosphere that puts visitors in the era of despotism and Serbian medieval noble life.
